Well, since I can never remember who I've told what... I decided to post our latest news online so that everyone who is interested and even those who are not can be caught up on our latest drama! haha.
Tomorrow, Steve flies to Chicago for a psychological evaluation as part 2 of his interview process for the job of Recruiting Manager for USG. He flew to Chicago 2 weeks ago and had his interview with a panel of 6 people. It's looking good so far, but we still don't have the definite "thumbs up". We are excited at the prospect of moving to Chicago, and I am trying to keep the house in relative order so that if and when the job is his, we can make the move without too much chaos. If he gets the job, it will mean having to switch schools and taking yet another standardized test to see if the state of Illinois thinks I'm smart enough to be a teacher. We'll see. I'm more annoyed about having to shell out another $150 more than anything. haha.
Next Tuesday, Feb. 7th, I go in for surgery to fix my hernia that developed on my incision from by gastric bypass surgery. It is considered out-patient so I won't even have to stay overnite. Steve will take the day off so that he can babysit me and be my chauffeur. I think it will take about a week or two to recover. It's a pain that I have to have another surgery, but I would do it again in a heartbeat. I'm down to 175 from 330 and officially wear a size 14. Holy cow! I love it. I finally feel like I look kinda normal for the 1st time in my entire life.
Matt is doing well at "school". He likes his teachers and they love him. His favorite thing to do is to play outside on the slide and he also told me that he loves snack time. Would he be part of my gene pool if he didn't love to eat?! haha.

Hi!
Hope all of you are well and ready for a new week. We had a quiet weekend at home. I believe we received about an inch of rain Friday night and Saturday morning. Ken enjoyed watching the first race of the season: Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona. It kept him going for 15 hours over Saturday and Sunday. Today we got some cleaning accomplished with our heating and air filter system in the attic.
This week the parents set up the library for the book fair that we will preview and have book fair sales next week.

Hi I think I finally have this figured out
We are all doing well. I fell the first part of January and sprained my left wrist, elbow and shoulder. It is much better now. Not totally OK but I think it will heal up OK in the long run. I was not so sure for a while there.
Becca has moved in with her Mother so we now have a spare bedroom.
Chuck has been working on the Ranger truck Pop's gave him. We got the seat fixed where it was torn. It looks like new. We found an apolsterer who had the very fabric in stock that the truck origially had. He recovered the side of the seat and it looks great. The truck is really cute.
Well I need to get off for now. I'll try to get on again this weekend.

We got rain!
It began raining Sunday night about midnight. First the thunder and then the rain. We got about 1 inch here. 50% chance is predicted for Thursday night. We will hope.
Did it rain in Blanchard or Stillwater? Yesterday's rain here did not reach Wichita or Eureka. Chuck and Warren both called Ken for different reasons and it was dry in Kansas. Chuck helped Warren on his garage project Sunday and they have all the side walls up. Hopefully they will begin the roof next Sunday. Warren will work Saturdays at his job through March.
Nancy has changed jobs. She called Ken yesterday also. Her new job is at the glass factory in Durant. Maria also works there. The pay is much better for her than her former job, but she will have to wait until March for benefits to begin. Michael moved to Gainesville and still works at the WinStar. Nancy may not be getting any email lately. I believe she used to see at her former job.
I received email from Teri today. She sees email better at work on a daily basis, and hasn't had time to join us on the blog. She uses their home computer about once a week, so we'll have to wait and see about her being able to participate.
Ken goes to his opthamologist and pulmonary doctors this week--routine checkups.
Work goes on as usual. This evening the board of trustees ate dinner in our library. I provided some chili for their baked potatoes. We did not have to stay for it.

The latest on Blanchard USA
Hello All. Kristen, so glad to hear Steve's sermon went well. That is wonderful.
Not much to report from here. Still no rain. James has actually been home the past few weekends so that has been nice. Anna is walking just about everywhere. She would love to run I think, but she just can't keep her balance up for that yet. I start teaching at OSU-OKC tomorrow night. I'll be teaching victimology on Monday nights. We'll see how it goes. I'm looking forward to it and dreading it at the same time. I think it'll be nice to do something different, but I'm not sure I'm up for undergrads. I remember them from my GA days at NMSU and I just found them annoying then. I hope that is not the case this semester.
Well Mom and I are off to see the Will Rogers Follies today at the Civic Center. I think Larry Gatlin is playing the lead. Should be interesting.

Steve's Sermon Was a Success!
Steve was the interim preacher at church last Sunday (our pastor was on vacation). He looked extremely dapper in his new suit. His mom, Diane, and his sister, Naomi, flew in for the occasion. We all sat in the front row to lend our support.
He preached on the huge amount of Grace that is evident in our lives. Kind of a take on the "Footprints" poem. Like... "where were you God when I only saw 1 set of footprints?" and God replies, "When you only saw 1 set of footprints, I was carrying you."
He actually made several people cry, myself included. Of course his mom boo-hooed. Some people were very surprised to see that the guy that they see every Sunday who is always cracking jokes could actually have an important and moving message to deliver. It went very well and was very well received. We were proud.
I made an audio recording of it, and as soon as I figure out how to get it from Cassette tape to CD, I will make copies for anyone who wants them.

Hi! Everyone,
Have you had any time to post to the blogger recently? I hope everyone is well and doing fine.
We had a beautiful day today even with a little cool weather, from the 30s to the 60s. We are supposed to get rain, maybe tonight or tomorrow. It has been over 2 months without rain. I know Kristen and Llew would love to balance out their rain with our drought. I wish we could trade some, also.
Ken and I went about 30 minutes north to the Yearwood's hangar for our monthly AAA meeting at Bar VK Airport. Looked like over 100 people attended with many planes. We have missed two meetings at Thanksgiving and Christmas, but were happier to be with family in Pullalup and Ken on his cruise. We caught up with visiting all of our wonderful AAA friends.
The farthest traveling were the Capps in their 70s from Capitol Hill in Oklahoma City who usually drive down, and a new friend, Jared ? from Ranger, TX, an hour's flight west of us, but not as far as Abilene, who is 19 and been around airplanes since he was 3. We gave hugs all around. Former president, Jim Dougherty has lost 40 pounds with LapBand surgery. He is looking healthier. Ann Pellegreno, next door neighbor, finished her 3rd book about aviation in Iowa, and gave us an autographed copy.
We sat next to friends Marge and Leonard Ritchie, who live a little north of us at Heritage Creek. She is a pilot, an artist and now children's author. I bought 3 of her laminated books. I think they are quite good. Maybe some day she will become famous and her characters will be on TV. That's how we get most of the children's TV characters on PBS, Nicklelodean, etc.--from children's author's books. Llew? We should team up and write and illustrate children's books together! The L & L Sisters--how does that sound? I bet Wanda Wack Wack and the other animals would give plenty to write about.
We are excited that Lowe's has opened in Decatur--doesn't take much to excite us, does it? I hope we go tonight and check it out.

We heard her speak at our Texas Library Conference in 2002 after "Winn Dixie" was voted the best Texas Bluebonnet book that year by over 2,000,000 3rd-5th grade students in our state. Our school's voting for the students' favorite Bluebonnet book is this Thursday with an ice cream and Bluebonnet cake party in the cafeteria. I estimate that about 200 of our students who have read at least 5 of the 20 books will vote that day. I bought 5 of each copy and we began reading in November.

MLKJ Day
Did any of you get to stay home today? This is my last day of freedom, and then back to work until spring break on March 11th. I have been cleaning out paper work that seems to pile up so easily. We will go to Denton today so I can try and find a nice cruise/party dress. I need one for this coming Friday because one of our teachers will have her 50th birthday--PE teacher. I hope Dillard's has one for me at 50% off. I'll check Foley's also. We are still dry, with a promise of some rain somewhere, but it is just gray--no rain--maybe farther east of us.
I hope Steve's sermon went well yesterday. Warren has been working a lot of weekends, Saturdays and Sundays, but had this weekend off. From next weekend through March, he will work all Saturdays also. That sounds like James to me. Chuck and Teri have gone to visit Warren and Julie a couple of times lately, and the siding on the garage is mostly complete on the two long sides with Chuck's help.
Azalee (my aunt in Austin) called this week, and let me know that she will sell her home between now and the next two years, and move to an assisted care facility. David will come sometime this month from San Jose to check on her, taxes, etc. I feel sure her sons David and Donald have plans to take care of her needs that she may not be totally aware of, and that is good. Her mind is pretty sharp most of the time, but at age 90 she has lapses in memory, and the body is not keeping up. Even though her home is on one floor, she has steps to go up and down in the front and in the back.

Llew stumbled into the create page on her own
Dear All, Hello from Washington again. It is, as Kristen said, very,very damp here in our part of the world. I know that we have all the jokes about rain, like buying a teeshirt that says, "we don't tan, we rust" and "slugs vacation here", but the 26 days of rain so far are even getting us natives down. And it really hasn't been flooding here in Whatcom County where Bellingham is like it has down around Seattle and south. Vonnie and I are also still working on Christmas things, Brandi. We are slow, slow, slow. But a few years ago, a package that had been sent to Paris returned to us accidentally, was 5 months on the road, and we braved eating the cookies. Surprise, they were still delicious and seemingly fresh. So now, we pace as we pace and may be only slightly behind the three wise men date in finishing the mailings. I have enjoyed reading everyone's postings and hearing so much family thought in one place. Very nice. Love, Llew

Rain...
Please feel free to send all that rain here. I just heard on the news today that they are expecting our drought to last through May. How crazy is that.
Had a nice visit with Liz and the fam today in Stillwater. Thought we'd better get Christmas over with once and for all. Mmm, cheese fries, thanks Liz, haven't had those in about 5 years.
James just went out to get a Powerball ticket. Tonight is the first drawing in Oklahoma. How funny, maybe he'll win something.

Hangin' in there
How have all of you been the last couple of days? For one, I am thankful that tomorrow is Friday at work. We had a very busy week at work.
Today the science fair judges were in the library for breakfast, judging directions, lunch, etc. I didn't have to do anything directly with it, but needed to help the students get their library business done quietly on one side of the library while the adults were on the other side. Our PTO moms were in charge of the food and I brought some and helped with that. Tonight we had our Science Fair/Family Science Activity Night. About 200-300 students and parents participated at different stations in the library, art room, and hallway. They had a lot of fun.
Tuesday the library sponsored two men, Troup d'Jour, who enteretained the students in two assemblies about Shakespeare. They dressed up in costume and interacted with the students through play and having the students come up on the stage to participate in the plays. The students learned a lot and had fun at the same time. The lead actor, Hal Even, does this full time now during the breaks between teaching acting at Houston Community College. I and our library volunteers and PTO moms went all out for the luncheon food and decorations. We served about 60.
Kristen, let Steve know Hal is an ordained UM preacher with the Texas Conference, where my dad also served. They were guests at our Tuesday luncheon along with our staff. By the way, I hope it is okay to let all know that Steve will preach his first sermon at their church this Sunday. Best wishes for the message he brings!

On the news tonight, we were told the smoke we smelled was drifting down from Randlett, OK. I feel badly about all of the acreage, homes, and lives that have been lost to the drought in TX, OK, KS, and AR.
Ken went through a blizzard Tuesday morning between Eureka and El Dorado. He didn't come out of the snow until Perry. His truck looked awful from the spray the 18 wheelers put on it.

Teri has joined our blog
I received a confirmation today that Teri has accepted the invitation to join our blog.
Ken cme home today. It was a hard drive. A snow blizzard between Eureka and the Wichita Turnpike and pretty miserable road conditions until Perry. Glad he made it safely.

Barely beginning to catch on to this
It is so cool to hear from my daughters and daughter-in-law. This is pretty neat, to be so spread out in the day, and still be able to put our thoughts down and share with each other. I had a hectic day yesterday at school and a hectic night last night. Same way today and tonight. Ken comes home Tuesday and I am glad it worked out that way. Warren worked at his job Saturday and Sunday and wasn't able to get off today or Tuesday for Ken to help him more with the garage project. I hope he gets here safely. We have a Shakespeare troup performing tomorrow at school and the library + PTO moms will put on a luncheon for our staff and guests. After school is Scrabble Club. Then I get to come home and crash. Greetings
Hello all, greetings from South Central OK. So far we've avoided the fires, some 367,000+ acres so far have gone up in flames in OK alone. James and I watched the briefings over the weekend. They are responding to so many, and just concentrating on that that they have stopped counting how many structures have been hit. How scary is that...
Anyway, things are good at our house. Anna is up and walking more and more. As long as she doesn't try to go to quickly she can make it a good 10-15 feet without falling. But if she's in a hurry she still relies on her bear crawl. James actually didn't work this weekend so that was nice. While the side jobs are nice for the added income, it is hard to balance them against the time lost at home. Oh well, day by day...

Hey! This forum will probably work better for me than the instant messaging.... I'm on campus so much and the labs there don't support IMing. I begin classes today. Fifteen hours of management type classes. Business law, labor negotiations, compensation, etc. Yeehaw! Lewis and Colton are doing well. Finishing up basketball season by March and heading into my favorite season.. baseball. Thank goodness the boys still want to play. ;-) John is figuring out his next move and trying to squeeze a well deserved vacation in before Feb. His investors aren't wanting to wait until then for him to begin working on buying a funeral home... not a bad problem to have if you think about it. I guess that's it for now. Have a great week!

News from liltexqt
Hello all!
This branch of the family tree is doing well. Steve and I just started back to school for the Winter quarter. Steve is taking Christian Scriptures and Cristology, and I am taking Issues of Abuse in Schools, School Law, and Multiculturalism in Schools. We are enjoying our classes and will be finished sometime before hell freezes over. haha.
Matt just started going to regular daycare at Love & Laughter, a Christian preschool about a mile from our house. He seems to really like it, but seems to have caught a bit of a bug from the other kids and is now dosed up with medicine and taking a nap. Hopefully this will build up his immune system and he won't get sick very often.
It is rainy, rainy, rainy, rainy here. It sucks! I hate it! Give me some sunshine please! Oh well, maybe sometime in April the sun will come out again.
I hope others in the family post to this blog. It would be nice to catch up on news from other branches of the family tree!

I have decided to try blogging. I do not know where it will lead us, but I certainly want it to be safe for everyone in our group.
It seems a good way to share thoughts and ideas about what is going on in our different parts of the country, as well as share pictures over the Internet.
I recently also discovered Picasa2, another free service from Google. It has organized all of my pictures that I had in my hp folders, and is easier to use.
We have had a lot of grass fires in north Texas and Oklahoma. I have not personally seen any here in our county, but have read about them in the news, and have seen the TV news with their reporting. Driving to and from Kansas on Christmas Day and returning homw on December 30th, I noticed about double the burn areas on I-35 in Oklahoma (from 10-20) even then. If Elizabeth joins our group, she can comment on what she saw last night between Oklahoma City and Stillwater. Llew and Vonnie have even seen that our county, Wise County, was on their TV news about the grass fires.
I know there is flooding in California and wonder if Anne could bring us up to date on that in her area.
There is rain and has been snow in Washington where Kristen and Llew are.
Anyway, just wanted to get this started.
