Look at Llew's blog and "artsy-fartsy" near the top. Then check out Elizabeth's comment 3 at the bottom. I still don't get it. Will someone explain to this blockhead of a mom, grandma, and sister, what "artsy-fartsy" is? I can guess the first part, but hope the second part is better than the obvious.
Ken came home this evening. I expected someone to walk in the door all vibrant, excited, and ready to have a great evening. Instead, I discovered that my sweet husband was worn out and has a swollen right leg twice its normal size. I went immediately to the Justin Pharmacy for a diauretic and skin infection lotion. I am very glad he made it safely. He stopped and visited John for about an hour at his new funeral home. Ken says it is "choice" and had a good visit with John..
Am glad to hear from Brandi, James, and Anna some more. I wondered how long it would take the gate to up on the stairs.
I wonder if Llew and Vonnie will be able to join us at Iron Spring Resort on June 14th and 15th?
Our author today from Alaska was wonderful as a presenter and had lots of experiences to share with the children in our two assemblies from her 11 month 2,500 mile expedition across the Arctic with her 8-dog sled team. Her slides told much more than our students could have ever imagined. By the way, she has not stopped in Bellingham to give a presentation, but did go through on her way from near Anchorage, through Seattle, down to Arizona, over to see us, up to Michigan, and will return home near the end of May.

Where has the time gone???
OK, so I thought I'd check in on the blog today and realized I hadn't read it since January! How crazy is that?!?! Made me realize how swamped I've been at work and home lately. Nice to hear everyone is doing well though. Congrats on the new move Kris, how exciting! And Chicago is way cool. I went there my junior year at OSU for a conference. Lots to do and see. I'm just sorry James, Anna and I never made it up to visit Seattle. I'd like to get the opportunity to visit there again too.
Anna is doing well. Learning more and more everyday. It is so hard to believe she'll be 18 months old in March. We finally had to put the gate up on the stairs because if we dared turn around she'd be heading up them. Now she just runs for them anytime I say 'upstairs'. She loves climbing up and down, although she likes to be pulled down more than climb down them.
James worked all weekend, he's got a side-job in Guthrie at a house up there. We barely saw him at all he left by 5:30a and didn't get back until after 9:00p both nights. So he completely missed Anna all weekend. He's doing well otherwise. Still driving me crazy and refusing to do anything on his 'to do' list around the house. I even tried to ask him to glue down the floor trim as my Valentine's present and it still isn't done. He is rather creative though, always some 'good' reason why he can't get it done. ;-)
Well, I guess I'd better get back to my list o' things to do. Hope all of you are doing well. Take care. B.

Precruise touristing
Ken and I will stay at the Sleep Inn when we go to Seattle, Tuesday, June 13, 2006 after 5:00 p.m. on our flight. Ken has never seen the Pacific Ocean, so I have a surprise trip ready for him.
Llew knows of a rustic resort on the west side of the Olympic Rainforest right on the Pacific Ocean. She has stayed there many times and recommended it to me. I have reserved Cabin #14 which can sleep 2-6 for Wednesday and Thursday nights, June 14 & 15, 2006. We'll drive out, about 2.5 hours from Seattle Wednesday morning to get there. I read that no one in their right mind goes there at night, with fog, deer, and runners, and not knowing the area first.
The cabin has a stone fireplace, full kitchen, and supposed to have a good view of the ocean. I have read Trip Advisor and epinions.com and realize that the resort has it pros and cons. I will hope that we run into the pros more than the cons, espcially after Elizabeth told me about their first experience at the state park outside of Ardmore.
Llew will let me know as soon as she can if she and Vonnie can come join us, so there may be 2-4 spaces available if someone else wants to come join us. She has to wait to find out what Vonnie's class schedule and her work schedule is for that week.
I am watching the final ceremony of the Olympics. I am always awed by the athletes' determination to do their best and love Torino's motto: Passion Lives Here! Take care, drive safely, and keep good health! linsue

Farewell Visit with Kristen and Matt in Bellingham
Dear All, Vonnie and I had a wonderful visit with Kristen and Matt on Thursday and part of Friday of this past week. Since Vonnie was studying for a test, the rest of us went out to lunch at Old Town, a favorite restaurant which is natural foods and artsy-fartsy, has a play area for kids, and where Matt created his own with the high chairs behind our booth. Then we went to the Children's area of the Art Museum (which I had only heard about), which had regular trains set up for the kids to watch and to control in speed and stopping, and a larger train car that they could ride and push. Matt seemed to like pushing best, and would wait until other kids were on the train, then push it up and down the 10 foot long track. The museum was a walk-in array of large and outfitted play stations, an igloo, a tree house, a prarie dog town, Victorian doll houses, a ping pong ball that went through ceiling clear pipes on air bursts from a kid controlled machine, castles, a Japanese tea house, as well as the trains, which , of course, were the hit of the day. Then Kristen and I and Matt went to see the movie about the huskies in Antartica called EIGHT BELOW, which was very fine. A sidelight is that those dogs live most of the time here in Bellingham, and Vonnie and I have met them and petted them at the grocery parking lot, more than once. Linda, that's at Haggens. Kristen took us out to eat at the Japanese Steak House with the entertainment of knives and fire volcanoes at the table with an excellent showman cook; the show and the food were fantastic, steak and shrimp and chicken and all the trimmings. Like in Oklahoma with Brandi and James David at the barbeque restaurant, we had lots of leftovers for later. Matt enjoyed it all and even was picking up green peas with his chopsticks! That night we watched SURVIVOR (Vonnie and I are fans, fairly addicted ones) and the Olympics (women's long skate). Friday, Vonnie was with us and suggested going out to Lynden, a Dutch town with windmills and the Dutch Monther's Restaurant for special treats. We also went antique shopping: Kirsten found a viewmaster with its original box, and Vonnie found a sturdy, cute cradle for her new kitten Kim to sleep in. Matt found a barber pole that twirled in white and red light and was fascinated with it. We saw it going and coming up and down the sidewalk. Back in Bellingham, we went to Tube Time, a Matt favorite, which is like a giant and expanded and more challenging MacDonald's play area with slides (ask Kristen what that is like), and ball pit, and rope ladders and all sorts of challenging and fun tunnels and paths for kids. We always figure that it could be good for 2-4 hours. Invariably, the adults wear out before the kids do. It was a very nice, wonderful last time in Bellingham for a while, with family. We will surely miss Kristen, Steve, and Matt, but will be the bon voyage wavers as all of you head out for your cruise in the summer. Love, Aunties Llew and Vonnie

Steve's In Lubbock-So It's Me & Matt for a Week
Well, Steve left at the crack of dawn this morning to fly to Lubbock to do a recruiting gig at Texas Tech. His new-fangles job seems to already started! This means that Matt and I are on our own this week until Friday afternoon. We'll figure out some way to fill up the time.
Yes.... as Mom mentioned, we had quite an interesting afternoon on Thursday. Matt's daycare called to say that Matt woke up from his nap crying and was complaining that his ear hurt. I took him to the pediatric clinic where they pushed us through really fast because Matt was screaming his bloody head off because of the pain in his ear. The doc determined that Yes.. it is an ear infection. He gave me a prescription for antibiotics and for ear numbing medication and off we went to Rite-Aid to get them filled. Matt cried the entire way there and while we waited for them to be filled. Just as we were leaving the store, he started to cry louder. I picked him up so I could hurry to the car, and he promptly threw up all over both of us. Then I was the one crying!!! What a mess!!! The employees at the Rite-aid were very nice and helped us get cleaned up. Matt finally stopped crying and passed out from exhaustion at 1a.m. Yikes! What a cruddy evening that was! Friday morning he woke up happy as a lark and crawled into bed with Steve and I and started talking up a storm... only 4 1/2 hours later! Lord help me!
Motherhood is such an adventure!
Am thinking about driving up to the aunties this week sometime! Matt and I definitely want to see them, and our schedules are so screwed up, this may be the only time we can get away!

How is everyone?
I imagine all in our blog are very busy.
I'm at home this weekend, staying inside from the icy roads in north Texas and southern Oklahoma. Ken is in Eureka, helping Warren to install the garage doors. It was 6 degrees there this morning. I know Warren and he will be extremely happy to see Chuck and maybe Teri tomorrow if they can come over to help with the doors. Ken and Warren got the doors into the garage today, unpacked the first one, and put the trim up on the first one. It doesn't go on as fast as ours did with screws. The trim has to be drilled and then bolted on.
I talked with Elizabeth this morning and John and several days ago. They and the boys are braving it east of Ardmore in a rustic (that's Ken's word) cabin at a state park in the icy conditions. They saw many wrecks on the side of I-35 coming down Friday night. Thank goodness they were all right with John's driving. A wreck today with a tour bus killed two people south of Oklahoma City. They want to look around Ardmore during the long President's Day holiday where John will begin work in March.
My district doesn't get Monday as a holiday. I am glad the ice will be gone by then. Wish the weather was good so I could go up to visit Elizabeth's family this weekend, but it just isn't safe enough. Many highways in our area have been closed due to icy conditions and multiple wrecks.

Post Valentine's Day
Hi! Everyone,
Got to visit with Elizabeth, Kristen, Steve, James, and Llew on VD or the night before by phone, and Chuck, Teri, and Warren a few nights before that, so I feel blessed. Ken visited Nancy Monday. She doesn't have access to her email or the blog since beginning work at the glass plant, so feel that she would appreciate phone calls at home.
Heard from Grandpa that Colton called this morning to wish him Happy VD on his way to school with Elizabeth, and that I missed out. Sorry about that! I was charging my cell phone on the way to work, and forgot to get it off the charger and into school with me. Colton, thanks for the HVD wishes. Tell your mom to give you and Lewis hugs and kisses for me. Also heard that Lewis returned to school. Best wishes on your recovery with mono.
Did anyone else see Elizabeth's comment on her post about roses, etc.? On going to Ardmore this weekend, I will have to wait and call Elizabeth to see if I can make it. Of course, I would love to--like a half-way point, but don't know if that cold front--ice, sleet--will make it to Ardmore Friday or Saturday. If it does, I will be a chicken and stay home. Hernia Surgery went well!
The surgery went well. I now have a smaller scar and a smaller belly button. What can I say... the doc wanted me to look as cute as possible!
I will stay home from work for at least 1 more week. I may possibly not go back at all if I need to do things to prepare for the move. I am not supposed to lift anything over 15 lbs for 6 weeks, so that kind of leaves special ed out of the question.
We'll take it one week at a time. I want to get up to Bellingham to see the Aunties before we take off. Haven't made any definite plans yet though.

Update and Rose Question
Hello to All! Lewis is recuperating well, but has been restricted to zero activity levels. If he had to get mono, at least it is in between basketball and baseball seasons, he had to miss two nights of winter baseball camp and the Feb scout camp out and doesn't think that he is one bit lucky. ;-) Colton seems to have emerged unscathed from the plague that is mono and his last basketball game is this Saturday with a pizza party after. Oh.. and I am s'posed to tell you.. Colton has a 100% - A plus in math. We are very proud.
John went to Ardmore yesterday and is excited about the new adventure. He will be buying Griffin Funeral Home and the adjoining cemetery, Hillcrest. The housing looks better than I thought and John will be able to take a few months to find something. He reports to work on March 1st and we will be heading down there this next weekend to find him a rental for the Spring.
I'm OK.. in the middle of the first round of exams.. yee haw!
The Rose question: it's been such a mild winter that my roses have actually started budding out, but I'm afraid it will freeze again. Should I do anything to protect them? Take care everyone! Love, Elizabeth

Kristen has day surgery today and other things
Please think of Kristen today as she has a day surgery with a hernia that developed after her gastric bypass. She did not give me permission to share this with you, so I hope she does not mind me letting you know. Steve will be with her, and she will be at home for a week recuperating.
We have lost a dear friend at the airport. Those who do not work will go to the funeral for Ken Wahlquist (across the runway from the hanger where our 25th wedding anniversary luncheon was held). He survived a fall on our icy day, brain surgery, and recuperation, a move to the nursing home, but got pneumonia a few days later, and returned to the hospital where he did live. His wife Millie will probably not make this her home, but live with a daughter in the Dallas area. Before I went back to work, Millie, Carmen, Jennie, and I used to make daily walks around the airport for exercise. We will miss him and her.
Its book fair time. Thank goodness we have wonderful PTO moms and one grandmother who love to volunteer for the book fair and the library. It gives me more time to catalog teacher curriculum and technology materials, teach, and tie up loose ends.
Ken plans to go to Kansas on the 16th and help Warren finish up his garage. Chuck and Teri have been the most helpful on that heavy duty project. Yea! Teri and Chuck!
Better go now! Glad to hear that Anna is running everywhere, James has some weekends off, Warren had 1 weekend off, Chuck got parts for his Sunbeam, Nancy is doing well at her new job, Elizabeth is trying to survive with Lewis' mono, John will soon be in Ardmore for his new job, Kristen and Steve will leave the cold, wind, and rainy northwest for greener pastures, and I am still employed. Moving to the Windy City!!!
Well, Steven got the news on Friday that he has been chosen for the Recruiting Manager posistion at the USG corporate offices in Chicago. No start date has been decided yet. Probably though, March or April 1st. Now comes the time for gathering info on moving. We're excited and anxious to get the process started.
