Hi! Ladies,
How are y'all doing? I hope your weather is better than ours in Rhome, although I know for a fact that Oklahoma is suffering as much as we are. I believe I heard on TV that we have passed our 41st day of 100 degree plus temperature this year in our area. It is so dry that I have begun watering our trees that were planted, two oaks 4 years ago, and 9 Bradford pears before we moved here in '97. The leaves are turning brown and falling off much too soon in the year. In our area we still have dangerous grass fires.
Yesterday Ken and I went to Ardmore to visit Elizabeth's family. We had a good time. For a change, John got to be at home with the rest of us. Lewis was gone to his church Discovery Weekend for the middle schoolers and high schoolers. I am not sure of the numbers, but it seemed like there were at least 30 middle schoolers like Lewis, and 20+ high schoolers when we attended the youth and family commitment service. The whole bottom floor of the sanctuary was filled with the youth and all of the families. The youth had been there since Friday evening and will stay until 2pm today. Each family was asked to come to the altar with their child (grandchild) for a moment of prayer and to light a candle to be a light in the world. Lewis was very sweet and gave us hugs for being there. It was a surprise for him.
Elizabeth told me that many of you also wrote Lewis letters as I did. I am sure Lewis will open them sometime before the end of his weekend. This morning the youth will lead both of the worship services at FUMC, Ardmore.
Llew has shared that she has a new cast on her arm, but it will stay for longer than anticipated at first. She has become a left-handed computer operator without capitalization--well, who cares? At least she is able to function better with her new cast.
Take care. I know everyone is very busy. I go to work today to catalog and process videos and books. What fun! Of course I would rather be a home enjoying being with Ken, but that is not our real world, is it?

Tidbits

What's going on in your part of the world?
Hope you are having a wonderful weekend. How is your weather? We have passed the 34th day this year with over 100 degrees. Did anyone work this weekend?
I was absent 3 days last week--one to help Ken with pluresy--Yea! Advil! if you do not take too much and two for myself.
Our dermatologist in Oklahoma and the one here have been trying to get rid of a place on my nose for over a year. Well! Now it is gone! Right down to the cartilege in one area. I have to hope that I am one of lucky ones that the skin graft they took from my neck will "take" and give me new skin on the side of my nose.
There is a 50-60% success rate of the neck skin growing on my nose, new hairs and all. Where there is only cartilege, skin will not grow because cartilege is not live tissue, so in 6 weeks I get to tell my doctor if the grafted skin is turning a darker color--Oh, what fun!
I also have a bandage on top of the skin graft that looks soooo attractive. Not! The bandage is sewn to my nose--no chance of my picking at it is there? I have to figure out something I can put on the top of that so I won't scare the folks at school tomorrow. The hardest part is finding tape that will stick to my face.
I am soooo thankful that this is my last year to work in public school education. Our district has grown quickly each year and this one is no exception: from 8,000 to 10,000 students in our 10 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, and 1 high school. Our campus has 650 children and with me in library rotation, it is no bed of roses to corral 30 youngsters at a time 3 times each day for 50 minutes each. This will increase soon to 5 times a day for 50 minutes each. I'll go to work on the weekends to get the cataloging, processing, mending, straigtening shelves, etc. caught up. Think twice before becoming a librarian. It must have been in the Middle Ages when people thought librarians sat behind a counter and read all day.
We are beginning a new community read next week. All of our families will read How To Eat Fried Worms and then go see the movie in September.

Llew had surgery Friday
Wouldn't you know it? I knew that Llew was going to have hand surgery sometime soon but I did not know it was going to be today until I got home from work and looked at my email. She had written me at 1:47 a.m. Friday morning--sneaky, don't you think?--or maybe she just couldn't get to sleep worrying about the surgery.
Anyway, I hope I tell this correctly. If I do not, Llew, the one-armed bandit, will just have to jump right in here, and correct my story telling with her left hand. I called her this evening and she was still groggy from the surgery but wanted to talk. She has a cast on her right arm from below her elbow to below her wrist that covers the part of the thumb that was operated on and leaves the other fingers exposed. Everything is numb from the local they gave her for the operation. It will feel painful for a couple of days. She does not deal well with anesthesia but has done better this time around. Her surgery came as a result with heavy lifting of nursing home patients over time. The doctor took out part of a bone and put something artificial in (call Llew if you want the details correct) like another doctor did with her knee.
Vonnie has taken over washing dishes and pet detail for a while. I thought all of you would like to know. I am sure Llew would appreciate an email or a call. Love, linsue
