Hello to All! Lewis is recuperating well, but has been restricted to zero activity levels. If he had to get mono, at least it is in between basketball and baseball seasons, he had to miss two nights of winter baseball camp and the Feb scout camp out and doesn't think that he is one bit lucky. ;-) Colton seems to have emerged unscathed from the plague that is mono and his last basketball game is this Saturday with a pizza party after. Oh.. and I am s'posed to tell you.. Colton has a 100% - A plus in math. We are very proud.
John went to Ardmore yesterday and is excited about the new adventure. He will be buying Griffin Funeral Home and the adjoining cemetery, Hillcrest. The housing looks better than I thought and John will be able to take a few months to find something. He reports to work on March 1st and we will be heading down there this next weekend to find him a rental for the Spring.
I'm OK.. in the middle of the first round of exams.. yee haw!
The Rose question: it's been such a mild winter that my roses have actually started budding out, but I'm afraid it will freeze again. Should I do anything to protect them? Take care everyone! Love, Elizabeth
I am so glad to hear from you--Please tell Lewis that Grandpa knows exactly how he feels. Mono is no fun. Grandma Hollingsworth went to take care of Grandpa every day and brought him home made chicken soup to help him feel better when this grandma went to work.
ReplyDeleteColton--Congratulations! on your Math and not getting Mono! You are one lucky dude!
About the roses! If the night temp is going to be below 26 degrees, water the buds and then put a plastic bag loosely over the budded area, but not where it will blow off. It is VERY IMPORTANT to get the bag off the plant the next day before the temp gets above 32 degrees. Overall winter care: mulch deeply around all the roses. The canes may freeze, which will cause more serious damage to the plant and water throughout the winter.
Glad John is excited about his new work, and am glad school is going well for you! Love, linsue
Mother said to water the roots at least 2 times a week, that wet frozen will live, but dry frozen will not, and that things dry out in the cold as much as in the heat. An addendum to Linda's info, which is great. Love, Llew
ReplyDeleteAnd, good luck to Lewis, and congratulations to Colton on that Math excellence.
Cool, Llew. Love, linsue
ReplyDeleteThanks Mom and Llew! Will do all of the things as advised... I think Grandma would be proud that you remembered her advice. I still miss her sometimes. John has made the decision to live in the funeral home for the first couple of months. It's fairly new, built in '93, and has extra office/bedroom space upstairs. We are all going down this coming three-day weekend to stay in a cabin(with a fireplace.. cool) on Lake Murray. For anyone within driving distance (Mom, Brandi/James/Anna and Nancy), I am inviting you to come hang out with us. We are going to be house shopping and getting to know the area. Lewis and Colton want to go fishing on the covered dock... I think I'll take the new Sue Grafton book with me ;-) Love, Elizabeth
