Joliet weekend

Ken and I are having a wonderful time with Kristen, Steve, and Matthew this weekend. Temperatures are much cooler here than at home. Highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s. Since they moved here the middle of April, the air conditioner has been on only 5 days. We slept for 2 nights so far with the windows open and the ceiling fan on. By morning, I have been cold so Ken turns off the fan and closes the windows.

Thursday evening Kristen and Matthew took us to a Joliet Park concert with three groups playing: the high school jazz band that played big band music, the area youth orchestra that played Peer Gynt Suite, and the American Legion Band that played patriotic music. All three were excellent. We enjoyed our Subway dinner while listening and sitting in Kristen's lawn chairs. After the concert, we walked along the Des Plaines River and watched the draw bridges open to let a tug push through 9 barges, in a 3 x 3 configuration. I don't see how it kept from hitting both sides of the bridges. They had 1 worker at each of the front corners of the barges with walkie-talkies keeping their eyes open for any problems.

Friday we went to Midway to pick up Steve at the airport. I cannot believe the traffic congestion they have in this area. There is no way that anyone can speed to get anywhere due to the bumper-to-bumper cars on the freeways. That's just the way it is. It takes almost an hour to get to Midway and then the same back to their home.
Drivers have to be patient around here. They have no other choice.

Saturday Steve took us on a tour of Chicago, downtown at Soldier Field and the Field Museum, past the Sears Tower and the USG office building (very classy), the lakefront drive, and on around to Chinatown where we ate dinner.

Today we are chilling out, and will probably go "shopping"--which means "looking" for us. I don't have many opportunities to just go and look. They live near a lot of stores I haven't been to in a while, so I know I will enjoy that.

We'll ride the train tomorrow and meet Steve for lunch and then come back home. We'll arrive home Monday night about midnight.

Hope you are having a great weekend. Love, linsue
